For five years, Jews, Christians and Muslims have worked together to build houses for low income families in King County. The idea of Together We Eat and Learn (TWEL) grew out of this very positive experience of multi-faith sharing, serving and learning. TWEL seeks to create intergenerational and interfaith events that foster respect, friendship and understanding. You and your family are invited to join us in any or all of the following 3:00 – 5:00 pm Help to prepare Persian food. 5:00 – 6:00 pm Enjoy Persian appetizers, a Persian New Year demonstration; music, videos, Iranian facts and artifacts 6:00 – 7:00 pm Persian dinner 7:15 – 7:30 pm Islamic prayers and Jewish end of Sabbath ceremony 7:30 – 8:30 pm Panel presentation followed by Q & A Childcare will be provided between 3-6pm. (Toddlers & older children) A minimum donation of $10/per person, $30/per family is requested to cover the cost of food. 2007 Iranian Film Series: Stray Dogs Stray Dogs (93 mins). Director: Marzieh Meshkini. Stray Dogs is an intimate portrayal of two sibling street children in Afghanistan. In order to get closer to their imprisoned mother they go on a crime spree in Kabul.
2007 Iranian Film Series: Sounds of Silence Sounds of Silence (97 mins). Director: Amir Hamz and Mark Lazarz. This documentary by Amir Hamz and Mark Lazarz gives a grounded portrayal of musicians struggling with censorship. Through interviews with musicians in Tehran’s underground rock and hip-hop scene, the film allows the viewer a rare glimpse into the lives of a new generation of young artists searching to merge Iranian and Western musical traditions.
2007 Iranian Film series: Kamancheh Kamancheh (46 mins). Director: Bahman Kiarostami. Kamancheh follows master players of this challenging string instrument into Iran’s outlying provinces, giving the viewer a taste of their craft.
2007 Iranian Film Series: Behjat Sadr Behjat Sadr (46 mins). Director: Mitra Farahani. Behjat Sadr looks at the life and works of one of Iran’s most famous modern women painters. Sadr herself leads the viewer through her canvasses, discussing major influences in her art.
Method of Interpretation of Quran Mr. Abdolali Bazargan is known by representating a common sense and logical understanding of Quran and Islamm. Those whose hearts are searching are most welcome. BBC's Rageh Inside Iran: A Documentary University of Washington's Persian Circle Student Organization presents: BBC's Rageh Inside Iran: A Documentary. Rageh Omaar embarks on a unique journey inside what he describes as one of the most misunderstood countries in the world, looking at the country through the eyes of people rarely heard - ordinary Iranians.
